Presidential campaign forum on science and technology policy to be held October 5

Washington, DC - September 29, 2000 - Representatives of the presidential campaigns of Gov. George W. Bush and Vice President Al Gore will discuss the candidates' plans and polices for science and technology at a forum sponsored by the Washington Science Policy Alliance, a coalition of institutions for discussions on science and technology. The event, which will be held at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) auditorium, will be moderated by Joe Palca of National Public Radio, who currently is a Kaiser Family Foundation Media Fellow. Questions from reporters will be taken.

Speaking for Gov. Bush's campaign will be Robert Walker, former congressman from Pennsylania and chairman of the House Science Committee. Mr. Walker currently is chairman and CEO of The Wexler Group and is Gov. Bush's top science and R&D advisor. Speaking on behalf of Vice President Gore will be David Beier, chief domestic policy advisor to the Vice President since April 1998; prior to that Mr. Beier was vice president of government affairs at Genentech.

Please note that space in the auditorium is limited, as members of the scientific community also will be in attendance. So, please arrive early!
