Congressman Davis will address chemists at Chicago meeting

U.S. Rep. Danny K. Davis (D-Ill.) will speak at a luncheon sponsored by the minority affairs committee of the American Chemical Society on Monday, August 27, at the Society’s 222nd national meeting in Chicago. The Chicago congressman, a member of the House small business committee, will address the group following a special session on development and support of small minority chemical businesses.

Davis serves on the small business committee’s subcommittee on workforce, empowerment and government programs, and on the committee’s tax, finance and exports subcommittee. The third-term congressman also serves on the House government reform committee and on its census subcommittee, and he is ranking member on its civil service subcommittee. He is a member of the Black Caucus and Regional Whip in the Democratic Caucus.

Born in Parkdale, Ark., on September 6, 1941, Davis moved to the westside of Chicago in 1961, after earning an undergraduate degree from Arkansas A.M. & N. College (currently University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff). He subsequently earned a master's degree from Chicago State University and a Ph.D. from the Union Institute in Cincinnati.
