30 years of fighting cancer: Forum discusses future of war on cancer

What will it take to defeat the scourge of cancer? Despite 30 years of an unprecedented national effort against a disease ,one of every two men and one of every three women will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetimes. A third of those will die from the disease. Within this decade, cancer is expected to overtake heart disease as the nation's number one killer.

On Nov. 7, 2001, leading research, clinical and policy experts will discuss progress and setbacks in the fight against cancer at a national forum sponsored by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and the Americans for Medical Progress Educational Foundation (AMP). Experts also will comment on just-released policy recommendations for prevention, treatment and funding priorities, proposed by the National Cancer Legislative Advisory Committee.
