Economic reform leads to environmental changes in Lithuania

Washington D.C.- 18 January 2002 - Valdas Adamkus, President of the Republic of Lithuania, will discuss environmental change through economic reform, consolidating environmental principles and Euro-Atlantic policy in an address to the Washington Science Policy Alliance (WSPA) on Wednesday, 23 January 2002.

President Adamkus is internationally recognized as a leader in environmental policy after spending a career heading a scientific environmental research center with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in Washington, DC. He retired in 1997, returned to his homeland in Lithuania and, as president, is dedicated to restoring and preserving the quality of the environment and responsible for innovation in planning and implementing ideas, policies, programs and enforcement.

This seminar will be held in the auditorium of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) on New York Avenue in Washington, DC. Attendance will be limited by the capacity of the auditorium; first-come first-served.
