Public Science Day brings new experiences to thousands of Cambridge students

Boston, Mass. - On 14 February, Shirley Malcom, Director of the Education and Human Resources Directorate of AAAS, and Leon Lederman, past AAAS President, will join about 1,000 Cambridge middle graders for Public Science Day, which launches the annual meeting of the world's largest federation of scientists.

These students will learn a lesson of a different kind by leaving their science textbooks and classrooms behind to celebrate Public Science Day 2002 from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at The Museum of Science with the opening of a new dinosaur exhibit. This exhibit includes a T. Rex model, updated to reflect current theories including the idea that birds and dinosaurs are closely related. In addition to exploring the museum's exhibits, the students will be fully engaged in science learning by participating in biology and paleontology programs, conducting an array of science and mathematics activities, project building, and working on a variety of experiments.

All of the students will have the opportunity to see an Omni film presentation or planetarium show. In fact, the Museum will give them a sneak preview of a new show - not yet open to the general public!
