Major food born illnesses post dramatic 6 year decline

WHO: Dr. Robert Tauxe, CDC foodborne disease expert

WHAT: To discuss an article in this week’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, “Preliminary FoodNet Data on the Incidence of Foodborne Illnesses – Selected Sites, United States, 2001

Dr. Tauxe will discuss new data from the CDC’s Foodborne Diseases Active Surveillance Network (FoodNet) from 1996-2001 that shows a decrease in three of the four major bacterial foodborne illnesses, indicating progress toward meeting the US Department of Health and Human Services’ Health People 2010 Objectives.
