National Lung Screening Trial

NCI launches largest-ever lung cancer screening trial

WHAT: Telephone press conference discussing the launch of the National Lung Screening Trial (NLST), the largest-ever lung cancer screening study, which is seeking 50,000 current and former adult smokers across the United States. NLST will determine if screening people with either spiral CT or chest X-ray before they have symptoms can reduce deaths from lung cancer. Currently, there is no lung cancer screening test that has been proven to save lives.
