Psychoanalysts to convene winter 2003 meeting

The Winter 2003 Meeting of the American Psychoanalytic Association (APsaA) will be held at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, New York City from January 21-26, 2003. Of particular note is the meeting's second annual poster session, "Research Relevant to Theory and Practice in Psychoanalysis," which will highlight current research projects.

On Wednesday, January 22 from noon- 1:30 p.m., there will be a "Press Briefing with Psychoanalysts on Current Events and Issues of Contemporary Concern".

Other important sessions include "Terrorism: New Psychoanalytic Views"; "Aggression: What is it? What Causes It?"; and a public forum on "Integrity and Self-Deception in Corporate America". There will also be a special symposium "Analyze This and That: A Conversation with Harold Ramis". Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy (D- RI) will receive the Presidential Award and will address APsaA's members about current legislative issues on the Hill in mental health care.

In discussion group entitled "Lacanian Approaches to Severe Psychopathology", a presentation will be made about a schizophrenic young woman who was successfully treated using only psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

These are but a few of the many session topics that also include infant mental health, dreams, culture, and the arts.

Founded in 1911, APsaA is a professional organization of psychoanalysts throughout the United States.
