Health crisis in Iraq

The impact of war on the health of Iraq's people is the focus of a ten-page special report in this week's issue of THE LANCET.

A wide variety of topics are discussed: the current fragile state of Iraq's health-care infrastructure-the legacy of the 1991 Gulf War and the imposition of 12 years trade sanctions; how the UN would co-ordinate humanitarian relief campaigns to deal with the after-effects of conflict; the potential plight of Iraqi refugees and internally displaced people; and how the US military have been preparing for chemical and biological warfare.
