Syracuse University College of Law conference to examine pharmaceutical patent policy

April 9 conference examines the 1984 Drug Price Competition and Patent Term Restoration Act

On April 9, Syracuse University’s College of Law will host a conference titled “Patent Policy in the Pharmaceutical Industry.” The conference, which is free and open to all, will examine the 1984 Drug Price Competition and Patent Term Restoration Act, better known as Hatch-Waxman—its successes and failures, as well as proposals for reform.

Speakers and panelists will include Thomas J. Kniesner, Krisher Professor of Economics in the Maxwell School of Syracuse University; Douglas K. Norman, general patent counsel for Eli Lilly and Co.; Elizabeth H. Dickinson, associate chief counsel for drugs at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration; and Matthew Bye from the Office of General Counsel for Policy Studies of the Federal Trade Commission.

The conference will be held in Room 100 MacNaughton Hall, starting at 1 p.m. and ending with a reception at 5:30 p.m. Registration, which is due by April 2, can be completed online at http://www.law.syr.edu/academics/conference.asp.
