Women’s health issues, child and adolescent disorders featured at APA’s annual meeting

Arlington, Va. – Post-partum depression, childhood grief, breast cancer and depression, and weight reduction are among the cutting-edge research topics being presented at the American Psychiatric Association's 156th Annual Meeting in San Francisco, May 17-22 – the world's largest psychiatric conference.

APA expects an estimated 19,000 attendees from more than 34 countries. More than 1,000 clinical papers, symposia, new research poster sessions and workshops will be presented by leading researchers at the Moscone Center (convention headquarters) and surrounding hotels.

Program highlights include:

"The program offers a goldmine of news and feature opportunities for the media," said Geetha Jayaram, M.D., Scientific Program Chair. "Groundbreaking research at the meeting covers a wide range of topics--genetics, brain imaging, illness and depression, and mood disorders."

Additional topics include but not limited to: ADHD, death and dying, somatoform disorders, addiction psychiatry, forensics, workplace mental health, suicide, violence, AIDS and HIV-related disorders, terrorism, personality disorders, geriatric, treatment techniques and outcome studies.
