Media seminar on cardiovascular medicine
Heart disease is the nation's leading cause of death. Scientists continue to make great strides in improving the odds to beat heart disease. The Medical College of Wisconsin Cardiovascular Center (CVC) is the state's largest group of physicians and scientists doing cardiovascular research. This team of over 140 experts from many departments and disciplines combine their skills to solve problems through research and to deliver the best possible patient care.
Their current research includes promising efforts to grow new blood vessels, limit stroke or heart attack damage and develop genetic techniques to detect and treat the underlying causes of high blood pressure. In terms of total funding and number of researchers, the CVC is one of the top cardiovascular research groups in the country. The CVC also holds two major National Institute of Health Specialized Center of Research (SCOR) grants.
