Plan ahead for upcoming AGU meetings

Five major meetings in 13 months

2003 Fall Meeting
San Francisco, California
December 8-12, 2003

AGU's flagship meeting covers the broadest range of Earth and space science and has attracted 9,000-10,000 scientists in recent years, along with a press corps of over one hundred. This year, we move to the brand new Moscone West building on Fourth Street, just a half block from our home of recent years. The Press Room will be on the second floor (with windows!), as will the Briefing Room. We anticipate that both will be larger than at previous Fall Meetings.

The meeting's web site is http://www.agu.org/meetings/fm03/, and the list of approved sessions may be read at http://www.agu.org/meetings/fm03/fm03_ApprovedSessions.html.This list may change somewhat, depending upon abstracts submitted through September 4.

It is already possible to pre-register for Press credentials for Fall Meeting. The form is available at http://www.agu.org/sci_soc/fm03pressreg_cgi.html. Press eligibility (for all AGU meetings) is limited to:

Note: Representatives of publishing houses, for-profit corporations, and the business side of news media must pre-register through the AGU web site or register at the main registration desk at the meeting and pay the appropriate fees.

2004 Ocean Sciences Meeting
Portland, Oregon
January 26-30, 2004

The biannual Ocean Sciences Meeting is co-sponsored this year for the first time by the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society, Marine Technology Society, Acoustical Society of America, and Union Geofisica Mexicana. A web site has been established at http://www.agu.org/meetings/os04/, and the list of approved sessions (subject to modification) may be read at http://submissions6.agu.org/meetings_database/os04/OS04Session_report.html.

As we did at the 2002 Ocean Sciences Meeting, AGU will operate a press room and will organize press conferences on some of the most important news to be presented at the meeting. The Press Registration Form is already available at http://www.agu.org/sci_soc/os04pressreg_cgi.html.

2004 Joint Assembly
Montreal, Quebec
May 17-21, 2004

Continuing the tradition begun in Nice in 2003, the former Spring Meeting will be a Joint Assembly with the Canadian Geophysical Union. It will cover the full range of Earth and space science. As at this year's Joint Assembly, there will be a press room and press conferences on some of the important news presented at the meeting. The web site for this meeting has not yet been established.

2004 Western Pacific Geophysics Meeting
Honolulu, Hawaii
August 16-20, 2004

For the first time, the biannual Western Pacific Geophysics Meeting will be held in the United States, and for the first time, AGU will operate a press room and organize press conferences at the meeting. WPGM attracts scientists in all of the Earth and space sciences, not only from the primary target area of the western Pacific region, but from all over the world. The science presented is not necessarily based upon research conducted in the western Pacific.

The web site for this meeting has not yet been established. A media advisory early in 2004 will provide further information and a Press Registration Form.

2004 Fall Meeting
San Francisco, California
December 13-17, 2004

2004 Fall Meeting will again be the largest meeting of its kind this year. Media advisories will be sent, beginning in midyear. The meeting's web site will be established early in 2004.
