The activities begin Sunday evening, Nov. 2, with the popular Plenary Session at 7pm featuring Margaret Davidson, director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Her speech titled, "20,000 Leagues from Jules Verne: Towards the NextGen of Science Communicator," will stress the need for improved science communications.
On Tuesday, Nov. 4, the popular radio program, Agri-Talk, will broadcast live from the meetings at 9-10am, local time. Six scientists will be interviewed on the show and will answer call-in questions.
Also scheduled for Tuesday is a presentation by the 2002 World Food Prize Recipeient and 2003 MacArthur Fellow, Pedro Sanchez. His speech, "Eliminating Hunger in Africa--What Needs to be Done," begins at 3:45pm.
Over 4,000 delegates from 100+ countries are expected at the meetings, including scientists, researchers, academia, extension agents and students. A full slate of technical sessions during the week are scheduled through noon on Thursday, Nov. 6. The event also features exhibits, career fair, and guided tours.
