Developments in genetics, reproductive technologies, and other disciplines as well as the globalization of medicine have brought new challenges in every area of medicine. While perplexing for adults, these advances have created complex ethical questions for the provision of care and for research with children.
Leading international specialists in pediatrics and medical ethics will discuss:
Renowned ethicists, Arthur Caplan, PhD of the University of Pennsylvania will discuss "Use of Growth Hormones in Children." A topic that received considerable media attention in July 2003 when the FDA approved its use for children who are much shorter than their peers.
John Lantos, MD of the University of Chicago and a panel of experts from Mount Sinai School of Medicine and elsewhere will discuss the difficult questions related to parental requests for treatment that seems futile.
