Commerce's NIST and CU-Boulder to announce major achievement in ultracold quantum physics
The Commerce Department's National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the University of Colorado at Boulder (CU-Boulder), partners in the JILA research institute, will hold a joint news conference to announce a major scientific first in the field of ultracold quantum physics.
The work, scheduled for publication in the Jan. 24-30 online edition of Physical Review Letters, complements another JILA achievement, the creation of the Bose-Einstein condensate, a long-sought novel state of matter whose discovery in 1995 earned its researchers the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2001.
