A Celebration of UK Engineering Research and Innovation
17th November 2004, ExCel, Docklands, London
Invitation for Journalists (Exhibition Preview)
This exhibition looks at the achievements of UK Engineering and its potential for the future.
The twelve themes of the event cover every aspect of our lives from Healthcare, Transport, Manufacturing and Housing to Aerospace, Defence, the Environment and Communications. The event brings together people who are involved in all aspects of UK Engineering and are leading the way in world class research.
Projects on display include:
The event is jointly supported by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and the Royal Academy of Engineering. Journalists are invited to a preview of the exhibition at 3pm which includes the opportunity to talk to representatives from each of the twelve themes (see below for registration details, theme outlines and how to obtain further exhibit information).
This event is a key component of the International Review of UK Engineering Research 2004. The Review has been jointly organised by EPSRC and the Royal Academy of Engineering. The aim of the Review is to establish an independent assessment of the quality of UK engineering compared with international standards. This review is the sixth in a series undertaken by EPSRC in collaboration with the relevant subject societies. Further information is available on the International review of Engineering Research 2004 website: http://www.irer2004.org.uk/

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) is the UK's main agency for funding research in engineering and the physical sciences. The EPSRC invests more than £500 million a year in research and postgraduate training, to help the nation handle the next generation of technological change. The areas covered range from information technology to structural engineering, and mathematics to materials science. This research forms the basis for future economic development in the UK and improvements for everyone's health, lifestyle and culture. EPSRC also actively promotes public awareness of science and engineering. EPSRC works alongside other Research Councils with responsibility for other areas of research. The Research Councils work collectively on issues of common concern via Research Councils UK. Website address for more information on EPSRC: www.epsrc.ac.uk/ Founded in 1976, The Royal Academy of Engineering promotes the engineering and technological welfare of the country. Our fellowship – comprising the UK's most eminent engineers – provides the leadership and expertise for our activities, which focus on the relationships between engineering, technology, and the quality of life. As a national academy, we provide independent and impartial advice to Government; work to secure the next generation of engineers; and provide a voice for Britain's engineering community.
