National Academies advisory: Two-day stem cell symposium begins November 7

Last year the National Academies published a set of guidelines for the responsible conduct of human embryonic stem cell research. A new Institute of Medicine and National Research Council committee that will periodically update these guidelines is holding a symposium to explore developments in the field. Among the issues to be discussed are procurement of human eggs, alternatives for deriving embryonic stem cells, and implementation of the guidelines at various research institutions.

DETAILS:
Tuesday, Nov. 7, 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m., and Wednesday, Nov. 8, 8:30 a.m. to noon, in the auditorium of the National Academies building, 2100 C St., N.W., Washington, D.C. Reporters who wish to attend should register in advance with the Office of News and Public Information; tel. 202-334-2138 or e-mail news@nas.edu. Audio of the symposium will be webcast live at http://national-academies.org. An agenda is available at http://dels.nas.edu/bls/stemcells/agenda2006.shtml
