The second cancer research funding survey

What: The second ECRM (European Cancer Research Managers) Survey on European cancer research funding will be published at 10.30am (Central European time) on Tuesday 18 September 2007. It is an update from the first survey published in March 2005 and highlights major changes in cancer research spend both across Europe and the USA.

Countries covered in this survey: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom.

Arlene McCarthy MEP will host the press conference, and report author and ECRM chairman Prof. Richard Sullivan will present the key findings from the survey.

It includes:

• updated cancer research spend in Europe

• first update of US cancer spend since 1999

• estimations of non-direct funding through both universities and healthcare systems in Europe and the USA

• estimations of global cancer research funding

• first-ever estimations of major pharmaceutical direct spend on cancer research.

Director of the ECRM Secretariat, Mr Seth Eckhouse, will also be available to answer questions.

The European Cancer Research Managers Forum's purpose is to cross national boundaries, promote better communication and collaboration between European cancer research groups and policy makers, inform the public about cancer research, and establish 'best practice' in cancer research management.
