Distinctive Voices at the Beckman center announces fall lecture series

Lectures explore topics ranging from ghost hunting to the changing climate

IRVINE, Calif. – Distinctive Voices@The Beckman Center announced today its exciting fall lecture series. The events feature discoveries and research developments sure to interest anyone who is curious about the science and technology behind today’s hot topics. The diverse programs will explore giant waves, climate change, earthquake prediction, saving endangered species, and more. Audiences will hear from award-winning scientists, engineers, and physicians about recent findings that will improve the quality of life in the near future.

Wednesday, Sept. 5 – 7 p.m. Gene Therapy: Medicine of the 21st Century, presented by Inder Verma, Ph.D.

Wednesday, Sept. 12 – 7 p.m. Freaks, Rogues, and Other Giant Ocean Waves, presented by Craig B. Smith, Ph.D.

Thursday, Sept. 20 – 7 p.m. Quality of Life Technology – One Man’s Journey, presented by Rory A. Cooper, Ph.D.

Wednesday, Sept. 26 – 7 p.m. Predicting Earthquakes and Their Effects, presented by Thomas H. Jordan, Ph.D.

Wednesday, Oct. 10 – 7 p.m. Western Water Resources: History and Conflicts, presented by Thomas Maddock

Wednesday, Oct. 24 – 7 p.m. The Science of Saving Species, presented by Allison Alberts, Ph.D.

Tuesday, Oct. 30 – 7 p.m. Ghost Hunters: Can Science Explain the Supernatural", presented by Deborah Blum

Wednesday, Nov. 7 – 7 p.m. Clear Vision, Bright Future, presented by Stephen J. Ryan, M.D.

Tuesday, Nov. 13 – 7 p.m. Our Changing Climate, presented by Ralph J. Cicerone, Ph.D.
