Oct. 16 Briefing on Clean Water Act and Mississippi River

Millions of people along a 10-state corridor rely on the Mississippi River for drinking water, recreation, and commercial shipping. The river also is home to many important ecosystems, all of which depend on the quality of its water.

MISSISSIPPI RIVER WATER QUALITY AND THE CLEAN WATER ACT: PROGRESS, CHALLENGES, AND OPPORTUNITIES, a new report from the National Research Council, evaluates how effectively federal and state governments have implemented the Clean Water Act along the Mississippi River. The report also assesses the river's key water-quality problems and recommends ways to address them. It will be released at a one-hour public briefing.
