OncologySTAT publisher Monique Fayad to speak at scholarly publishing industry seminar

New York, NY November 7, 2007 – Monique Fayad, Senior Vice President and Publisher of OncologySTAT (www.oncologystat.com), will speak at the Society of Scholarly Publishing's (SSP) Fall Educational Seminar (http://www.sspnet.org/Events/spage.aspxon) Wednesday, November 14. The SSP seminar takes place from November 12 – 14, at the American Geophysical Union in Washington, DC.

Ms. Fayad will appear as part of a panel titled ‘New Business Models for New (and Gently Used) Content’, scheduled from 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM. Her presentation is titled, ‘Webify Me: Maintaining Content Supremacy Through Intelligent Information Design,’ and will detail how publishers can compete and innovate to satisfy user information needs through the convergence of content and technology.

“As we enter the adolescence of the Internet, publishers and generators of original content vigorously maintain that ‘content is king,’ but are challenged to deliver information consistently into users’ increasingly digitized workflow, said Fayad. “To compete and sustain content supremacy, publishers must commit to an intelligent information design program that:

The seminar will also feature Stephen Rhind-Tuff of Alexander Street Press, Inc., Susan Singer of Linden Labs/Second Life, Jake Zarnegar, of Silverchair, and will be moderated by Christopher Kenneally of Copyright Clearance Center.

“I am thrilled to participate in this panel of diverse constituents representing every facet of electronic publishing and information delivery,” states Fayad. “Given the success of Linden Labs’ Second Life virtual 3D communities among consumers, media and entertainment, it will be especially interesting to discuss potential applications for this technology in professional and scholarly publishing.”

According to the SSP, the event is designed to answer the big content questions: Do value-added features add revenue? Can aggregating and mashing create wholly new products? Will print advertising dollars move online? The half-day session will explore how a broad range of educational, commercial, and scholarly publishers are capturing the "long tail" of their markets with innovative business models.
