Jan. 16 public seminar on space science in Tallahassee, Fla.

In its next installment of “Forging the Future of Space Science: The Next 50 Years,” a yearlong series of public seminars and colloquia, the National Research Council’s Space Studies Board will present a free lecture by NASA Astronaut Carl Walz titled, “Leaving the Planet – Science and technology development results on the International Space Station.”

Additionally, panel discussions involving local scientists from a number of space-related disciplines will precede the lecture, offering a chance for the scientific community and the public to discuss the past and future of various aspects of space science and exploration.

This is the fifth event in the series, which examines new discoveries in space science and looks ahead at what the next 50 years might bring. Each regional seminar includes an afternoon panel discussion with local scientists, followed by evening lectures by distinguished U.S. and international scientists and space officials. More information on this event and the series in general, along with presentation materials from past events, can be found at http://www7.nationalacademies.org/ssb/.

DETAILS:

The panel sessions will run from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. EST on Jan. 16 in the Planetarium of the Challenger Learning Center, 200 South Duval Street, Tallahassee, Fla.
