Why immigration divides America will be tackled at UCSD Economics Roundtable, Feb. 13

One of the nation’s leading authorities on the economics of immigration, University of California, San Diego Professor Gordon Hanson, will speak on the topic “Why Does Immigration Divide America"” when he addresses the UCSD Economics Roundtable on Wednesday, February 13, 2008.

Hanson’s current research focuses on the international migration of highly skilled labor, the causes of Mexican migration to the United States, the consequences of immigration for African Americans, the relationship between business cycles and global outsourcing, and the implications of China's growth for the export performance of Mexico and other developing countries.

Hanson is the Director of the Center on Pacific Economies and Professor of Economics at UCSD’s Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies and is a professor in university’s Department of Economics.

The Economics Roundtable will be held at the Faculty Club on the UCSD campus beginning at 7:30 am. The fee of $50 includes the presentation, parking and a continental breakfast.
