March 11 telephone news conference on climate change and transportation system

Much research has been dedicated to the impact of transportation and burning of fossil fuels on the climate, but only a few studies have focused on the effects climate change will have on transportation. A new report from the National Research Council, POTENTIAL IMPACTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON U.S. TRANSPORTATION, it identifies potential impacts on transportation infrastructure and operations based on different possible results of climate change, such as sea-level rise, and offers recommendations to pinpoint vulnerabilities and actions needed to prepare. The report also covers short- and long-range decision making and strategies for public and private transportation planners and providers.

The report will be released at a one-hour telephone news conference starting at 11 a.m. EDT on March 11.
