Internal Medicine 2008 media advisory

WHO: American College of Physicians (ACP) -- the nation’s second-largest medical society

WHAT: ACP is hosting Internal Medicine 2008 -- a continuing medical education (CME) meeting for general internists and subspecialists (cardiologists, gastroenterologists, etc.) who provide primary and subspecialty care to adult patients. More than 6,000 attendees will also include allied health professionals, medical residents, fellows, and students. Internal Medicine 2008 offers more than 260 lectures, panel discussions, and workshops and is the largest CME meeting exclusively for adult medicine.

WHEN: May 15 - 17, 2008 (Thurs. - Sat.)

WHERE: Walter E. Washington Convention Center, 801 Mount Vernon Place NW, Washington, D.C.

WHY: Physicians attend the ACP scientific meeting to learn about recent medical advances that can improve patient care. They will challenge their skills, learn how to motivate their patients, get updated in technology and in practice management, and consider health policy issues such as the uninsured, pay-for-performance, and the health plans of the leading presidential contenders.

Clinical topics include diabetes management, patient safety, osteoporosis, menopause and manopause, and controversies in cancer screening. Other topics include illness in national leaders, computers in medicine and medical records, ethics and spirituality, and medicine in the movies. Tours of the Herbert S. Waxman Clinical Skills Center, where physicians refine procedural and examination skills, are available.
