High school students get a taste of dental research

Today, 32 Dallas-area students will be participating in the American Association for Dental Research's (AADR) High School Student Outreach Program. The program is held in conjunction with the AADR's 37th Annual Meeting & Exhibition at the Hilton Anatole Hotel.

The students are from the High School for Health Professions, the Talented and Gifted Magnet School, and the Business and Management Cluster School. The program includes a tour of Baylor College of Dentistry, a luncheon with a brief talk by AADR Past President Dr. Mary MacDougall, and a tour of the Exhibit Hall and Student Poster Sessions. The intent of the program is to encourage high school students to become interested in the field of Dental Research as a possible career choice.

This program is sponsored by Crest Oral-B, Procter &Gamble Professional Oral Health. “We are very pleased to once again be the sponsor of this important student outreach program,” said Dr. J. Leslie Winston, Director, Oral Care Professional & Scientific Relations. “With the emerging links between oral and systemic health, dental research is, and will continue to be, an exciting and stimulating scientific field. Getting talented students interested in dental research at an early age can be an effective way of helping to meet the future research needs of this industry.”

Local organizers include Dr. Larry Bellinger and Dr. Ernie Brooks, both of whom are from the Texas A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry.
