Media invited to ACS teleconference on pharmaceutical industry careers

WASHINGTON, Sept. 8, 2008 — News media covering the pharmaceutical industry, careers, education, and related topics are invited to join an American Chemical Society (ACS) teleconference on the employment outlook in this key field.

Scheduled for 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. on Sept. 11, 2008, the teleconference will feature Magid Abou-Gharbia, Ph.D., Senior Vice President and Head of Chemical & Screening Sciences for Wyeth Drug Discovery and Development. His topic: "Pharmaceutical Industry Outlook — Keep Your Career on Track." Abou-Gharbia is noted for building a strong multi-disciplinary chemical and screening sciences program based on modern drug discovery technologies and the recruitment of high-caliber scientists. There will be a 30-minute discussion with Abou-Gharbia followed by a 25-minute Q & A session.

Abou-Gharbia is the first guest speaker in a series of teleconferences scheduled monthly (except December) during the remainder of 2008 and into 2009, according to Liane Gould, manager of career services for ACS, which has more than 160,000 members.

News media can tune into the conference without charge, but must register in advance at the ACS Careers website, which also provides information about future forums.
