WASHINGTON, Oct. 7, 2008 — News media covering scientific research and development and related topics are invited to join an American Chemical Society (ACS) teleconference on the experiences of an industrial chemist working for one of the largest U.S. chemical companies in the world.
Scheduled for 2 – 3 p.m. ET on Oct. 9, 2008, the teleconference will feature Carolyn Ribes, Ph.D., a technical leader in the Core Research & Development Group of Dow Benelux in the Netherlands. As an industrial chemist working for the world's second largest chemical company, Ribes will speak on her experiences and lessons learned as a member in the international work environment. There will be a 30-minute discussion with Ribes followed by a 25-minute Q & A session.
Ribes is the guest speaker in a series of teleconferences scheduled monthly (except December) during the remainder of 2008 and into 2009, according to Liane Gould, manager of career services for ACS, which has more than 160,000 members.
News media can tune into the conference without charge, but must register in advance at the ACS Careers website, which also provides information about future forums.
The American Chemical Society — the world's largest scientific society — is a non-profit organization chartered by the U.S. Congress and a global leader in providing access to chemistry-related research through its multiple databases, peer-reviewed journals and scientific conferences. Its main offices are in Washington, D.C., and Columbus, Ohio.
