ON BEING A SCIENTIST: A GUIDE TO RESPONSIBLE CONDUCT IN RESEARCH, THIRD EDITION, new from the National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, and Institute of Medicine, offers researchers -- especially early-career scientists and their mentors -- guidance on the ethical conduct of scientific research.

The guide includes real-world and hypothetical case studies to help readers consider how to respond in complex situations.

Among the topics explored are:
