Dr. John E. Niederhuber to address the AACR 100th Annual Meeting

NCI plan to accelerate cancer research

John E. Niederhuber, M.D., director of the National Cancer Institute (NCI), part of the National Institutes of Health, will address the American Association for Cancer Research 100th Annual Meeting 2009 in Denver Monday, April 20, 2009, during a Special Session. The talk will focus on opportunities to hasten our progress against cancer and to conduct exciting new science, made possible, in part, by NCI's nearly three percent budget increase this year. Cancer research is a model for the study of disease and our nation's investment in cancer research can be traced to contributing to the diagnosis and treatment of many other major diseases. Niederhuber will discuss how NCI intends to balance the needs of individual investigators with large-scale endeavors such as drug development and patient characterization. The Special Session will be webcast at http://www.aacr.org/page16727.aspxn on a delayed basis. Immediately following the address, Dr. Niederhuber will hold a press briefing to answer questions about NCI's plans.

Monday, April 20, 2009 from 11:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. MDT (1:45- 2:45 p.m. EDT) for the address. A press briefing will follow immediately thereafter and run until 1:30 p.m. MDT. To dial in to the briefing or to ask questions, please call:
