European Society for Paediatric Urology to organise anniversary congress in Amsterdam (NL)

From May 6 to 9, the European Society for Paediatric Urology (ESPU) is organising its 20th annual congress. This anniversary meeting promises to be a special one, among other things because of its high-quality scientific content. The congress venue is the Forum Complex at the RAI Congress Centre in the southern part of Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Prof. Rien Nijman, ESPU President, says: "The scientific programme includes many highlights, for example the basic research sessions on Wednesday 6 May, where the latest developments in the field will be discussed. Furthermore, the State-of-the-Art lectures are of high quality this year".

On Thursday 7 May, Prof. D. Thomas will deliver the John Duckett lecture on 'Prenatally diagnosed uropathies: what do we know of long-term outcomes?' In the afternoon, 'The Developmental Pathogenesis of Birth Defects Involving the Genito-Urinary System' is the subject of a lecture by Prof K. Jones.

On Friday morning 8 May, Prof. D. Swaab focuses the attention on 'Sexual differentiation of the human brain: relation to gender identity and sexual orientation'.

Prof Wout Feitz, Congress Chairman, is looking forward to welcoming eminent experts from all over the world to this CME-accredited meeting.

Apart from lectures, the programme also includes panel discussions (for example about 'Hormonal aspects of undescended testis – current status'), a workshop and abstract presentations.

The paediatric nurses (ESPUN) offer a separate programme, including 4 sessions (Session I: Bladder Exstrophy/Epispadia/Hypospadia; Session II: Neuropathic bladder, Session III: Functional voiding disorders and Sesssion IV: Clinical practice). The ESPUN offer a workshop on how to motivate children to manage their own bladder dysfunction.

The ESPU/ESPUN are non-profit societies whose main purpose is to promote paediatric urology, appropriate practice, education as well as exchange between practitioners involved in the treatment of genito-urinary disorders in children. The ESPU is a partner of the European Association of Urology (EAU).
