Washington DC — On Thursday, July 16, 2009, 34 U.S. Nobel Laureates will ask President Obama to urge Congress to provide significant funds for energy research and development in the climate legislation it is considering. The climate bill approved by the House in June falls far short of this goal, they will tell the president in a letter to be sent to the White House on that date.
Specifically, the Nobel Laureates will ask him to urge Congress to include his proposed $150 billion Clean Energy Technology Fund in the climate bill.
At 4:00 pm EDT/1:00 pm PDT on July 16, Representative Rush Holt (D-NJ) and Nobel Laureate and former Federation of American Scientists Board Chairman Burton Richter will participate in a telephone press conference to discuss the letter and the importance of R&D and the new energy economy.
Remarks will be followed by 20 minutes for questions and answers. The toll-free number is 866-359-7493. When prompted, enter conference code 6665210426 followed by the pound sign (#).
