2010 summit underscores critical role of informal science education

WHAT: The Center for Advancement of Informal Science Education (CAISE), with support from the National Science Foundation (NSF) is hosting "Surrounded by Science," a biennial summit designed to underscore the critical role of informal science education. The two- day summit will bring together more than 400 leaders from across the country, including principal investigators of NSF grants. Participants will report on the impacts of their work and explore emerging issues including the complex infrastructure that supports science learning outside of school, and the policies that advance and limit those opportunities. Speakers to include high level representatives from The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, NSF, NOAA, NIH/SEP and NASA and other leaders in the field.

The Center for Advancement of Informal Science Education (CAISE) works with support from the National Science Foundation to strengthen and connect the broad field of informal science education that contributes significantly to the understanding and participation in science among citizens of all ages and walks of life. Founded in 2007 with support from the National Science Foundation (NSF), CAISE is a partnership among the Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC), Oregon State University (OSU), the University of Pittsburgh Center for Learning in Out-of-School Environments (UPCLOSE), and the Visitor Studies Association (VSA).
