From April 24 to 27, the U.S. National Academy of Sciences will hold its 147th annual meeting, at which new Academy members will be elected. Election results will be available online at noon EDT on April 27 at http://national-academies.org. Reporters can register in advance to receive the list of new members via e-mail.
Public events to be held at the Gaylord National Hotel & Convention Center, 201 Waterfront Street, National Harbor, Md., include:
APRIL 24, 8 P.M. TO 9 P.M. – Induction ceremony and signing of the "Registry of Membership" for members elected in 2009. A reception will follow from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.
APRIL 25, 10 A.M. TO 11:30 A.M. – Awards Ceremony
Recipients of 2010 NAS awards will be honored, including Eugenie Scott, executive director of the National Center for Science Education, who will receive the Academy's most prestigious award, the Public Welfare Medal.
