ACS webinar focuses on understanding professional liability for scientific consultants

WASHINGTON, June 7, 2010 — News media and others interested in the chemical sciences are invited to join the next in a series of American Chemical Society (ACS) Webinars™, focusing on understanding professional liability for scientific consultants.

Scheduled for Thursday, June 10, from 2 – 3 p.m. EDT, the free ACS Webinar™ will feature Richard Kissel, of Kissel Hirsch and Wilmer LLP, speaking on "Covering Your Elements - Understanding Professional Liability Concerns Facing Scientific Consultants and Strategies to Protect Yourself." ACS Webinars™ connect you with subject experts and global thought leaders in chemical sciences, management and business to address current topics of interest to scientific and engineering professionals. Each webinar includes a short presentation followed by a Q & A session.

News media and scientists can tune into the conference without charge, but must register in advance.

Kissel's topics will include:

• Anyone can be sued for anything, even if you're right!
• The importance of a written contract as a risk management tool.
• What needs to be done in the event you are sued or believe you might be sued.
• Examples and stories from the trenches –– lessons learned.

Kissel has represented the interests of primary and excess insurers and reinsurers for more than 30 years, and is a founding member of Kissel Hirsch & Wilmer LLP. His practice focuses on professional liability, with specific emphasis on lawyers' and accountants' liability, architects and engineers and technology issues, and Directors and Officers and corporate liability. Another primary focus of his practice involves reinsurance, including analysis, inspections, and arbitration. Kissel graduated from Boston University School of Management, cum laude, in 1976, with a degree in accounting, and Syracuse University College of Law, cum laude, in 1979. Kissel is an adjunct professor at Pace University School of Law, teaching accounting for lawyers, and insurance law.
