I. SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM

This year's theme, "Reaching New Peaks in Geoscience," aptly describes not only our mountainous gathering place, but also the shared purpose of more than 6000 geoscientists in coming together. Scientific discovery will be well-indulged by the program of eight invited Pardee Symposia, 156 topical sessions, including many from GSA's new Mineralogy, Geochemistry, Petrology, and Volcanology (MGPV) Division, 26 field trips, and high-profile special lectures.

More complete technical program information will be available after 10 August 2010, following the abstract submission deadline.

Field Trips

Field trips will highlight glaciation, late Cenozoic evolution of the Colorado Rockies, and a spectrum of geologic terrains, ranging from mountain uplift to landscape collapse to structural influences on mineralization.

Trips will also address societal challenges, including climate change and geologic hazards. Excellent geologic exposures in the Colorado Rockies region will emphasize how tectonism, volcanism, landslides, tectonic collapse, mineralization, and dinosaurs have shaped this region and now influence hazards, resources, and human habitation.
