Starting in 2011, Chinese Science Bulletin, Science China Life Sciences and Photonic Sensors will be published as open access journals and added to the SpringerOpen portfolio. All three journals are part of Springer's Chinese Library of Science (CLoS), a collection comprising more than 90 journals, with all their content available online at www.springerlink.com.

Chinese Science Bulletin and Science China Life Sciences are co-published by Science China Press (SCP) and Springer. Photonic Sensors is co-published with the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. The journals are managed and organized by international editorial boards, made up of renowned experts and scholars, who guarantee the high academic standards of the articles and support an expeditious manuscript-review process. Published under the SpringerOpen model, the journals' contents will now be fully and immediately open access, available to anyone with an Internet connection.

Yongchao Shi, Chief Editor at Science China Press, said, "We have considered how to best distribute high-quality research papers globally to the widest audience possible. With this challenge in mind, we have converted Chinese Science Bulletin and Science China Life Sciences to open access journals starting in 2011."

Lu Ye, Editorial Director China at Springer, said, "We have successfully collaborated with Science China Press for the past five years. Publishing two SCP journals as open access publications signifies a new stage in the cooperation and will definitely increase the global visibility of high-quality research out of China. We are also making additional open access agreements which shows that other academic partners in China are following this trend."

SpringerOpen journals (www.springeropen.com) are published under the Creative Commons Attribution license, which facilitates the open distribution of copyrighted work. According to this license, Springer will not reserve any exclusive commercial rights.

Science China Press is a scientific journal publishing company within the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). SCP publishes 17 academic journals of which nine are in English. These journals are sponsored by both CAS and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Among those journals, Science China Series (eight journals) and Chinese Science Bulletin are included in CLoS.
