Symposium on reducing cardiovascular risks

MAYWOOD, Il. -- On July 14th, nationally renowned cardiovascular disease specialists will discuss the latest findings on how doctors and nurses can help their patients lower their risks of cardiac-related diseases.

Topics include clinical application of advanced lipid testing; bariatric surgery and weight loss; cardiovascular disease prevention; preventive cardiology update in women; current treatment of low HDL cholesterol; optimal diets for cardiovascular health; high-dose statin therapy; inflammation and cardiovascular risk; and subclinical atherosclerosis imaging.

Loyola speakers are Bipan Chand, MD, Ivan Pacold, MD and Binh An P. Phan, MD. Speakers from other centers are Vera Bittner, MD of the University of Alabama at Birmingham; Michael Davidson, MD of the University of Chicago; Paul Ridker, MD of Harvard Medical School; James Stein, MD of the University of Wisconsin; and Peter Toth, MD, PhD of the University of Illinois.

The all day symposium will be held at the Fred Turner Training Center on the McDonald's Campus in Oak Brook. The symposium is targeted to primary care providers and other allied health providers who treat patients at risk of heart disease or patients who already have heart disease.

Physicians can receive up to 6.75 continuing medical education credits. Nurses also can earn CME credits. The registration fee is $175 for physicians and $125 for residents, fellows, nurses and techs. For more information, call (708) 216-3236.
