MIT Energy Initiative and US Department of Energy Host C3E Women in Clean Energy Symposium

CAMBRIDGE, MA – On Friday, September 28, journalists are invited to attend the C3E Women in Clean Energy Symposium, hosted by the MIT Energy Initiative and the US Department of Energy, at the MIT Media Laboratory. The daylong event, which takes place from 7:45 a.m. to 7:15 p.m., will feature over 20 leaders in clean energy, including Susan Hockfield, President Emerita of MIT, Elizabeth Dipuo Peters, Energy Minister of South Africa, and David Sandalow, Acting Under Secretary and Assistant Secretary for Policy & International Affairs for the U.S. Department of Energy.

Business leaders, policymakers, entrepreneurs, academics and students will participate in panels and group discussions on topics including Energy Technology and Innovation, Advancements for the Developing World, US Energy Policy, Entrepreneurship and Innovative Business Models, Corporate Implementation, and Mentorship and Education.

A centerpiece of the day will be an awards ceremony and luncheon for recipients of the first-ever C3E Awards. Rising leaders in clean energy will be recognized for their leadership in the six discussion categories. Each will receive $10,000 cash prizes. The entire symposium will be accessible online via live webcast. The Twitter hashtag for the event will be #CEM2012.

MIT President L. Rafael Reif will present MIT Professor Mildred Dresselhaus with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her considerable contributions to the field of clean energy. Senior-level Ambassadors for the C3E initiative, listed here, will also have a prominent role in the event.
