New edition of 'Bacterial Genetics' text available

ASM Press announces the fourth edition of Molecular Genetics of Bacteria, a textbook that centers on the most-studied bacteria, Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis, in addition to examples from other medically, ecologically or biotechnologically significant bacteria.

"With the addition of two new authors, the fourth edition of the textbook Molecular Genetics of Bacteria has been substantially revised and some new sections have been added," write the authors in the preface of the text. "The purpose was to convey more accurately how one approaches questions in modern bacterial genetics, using the full repertoire of methods now available. "

Newcomers Joseph Peters and Tina Henkin join veteran authors Larry Synder and Wendy Champness in the revised edition.

Molecular Genetics of Bacteria provides descriptive background information, detailed experimental methods, examples of genetic analyses, and advanced material relevant to current applications of molecular genetics. Integrated with biochemical, genomic, and structural information, Molecular Genetics of Bacteria offers readers an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of bacterial molecular genetics.

Drawing from nearly a century of combined teaching experience, the authors created a textbook that is perfect for advanced undergraduate and graduate-level students. Larry Snyder is Professor Emeritus of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at Michigan State University, where he taught for almost 40 years. Wendy Champness is Professor Emerita of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at Michigan State University, where she taught for more than 25 years. Joseph E. Peters is Associate Professor of Microbiology at Cornell University, where he has been teaching for 10 years. Tina M. Henkin is Professor and Chair of Microbiology and Robert W. and Estelle S. Bingham Professor of Biological Sciences at Ohio State University, where she has been teaching for 17 years.

According to Thomas J. Silhavy, Warner-Lambert Parke-Davis Professor, in the Department of Molecular Biology at Princeton University, Molecular Genetics of Bacteria is unique in its comprehensive approach to the subject. "I teach a literature-based, graduate-level course entitled Prokaryotic Molecular Biology. Many students request a textbook for background reading, and this is the one I always recommend. The material is clearly and logically presented, and no other book covers the topic as thoroughly."

Molecular Genetics of Bacteria is also an invaluable reference for anyone working in the fields of microbiology, genetics, biochemistry, bioengineering, medicine, molecular biology, and biotechnology.

Molecular Genetics of Bacteria, Fourth Edition has a list price of $129.95 and can be purchased through ASM Press online at http://estore.asm.org/press.
