New book by Baylor psychologist Gary Elkins explores use of hypnotic relaxation therapy

Hypnotic Relaxation Therapy: Principles and Applications (Springer Publishing) is a new training manual by Gary Elkins, Ph.D., director of the Mind-Body Medicine Research Laboratory at Baylor University.

The manual explains the basics of hypnotherapy and its uses for pain management, anxiety reduction, smoking cessation, insomnia treatment, and treatment of post-menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes.

Elkins has served as President of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, President of the American Board of Psychological Hypnosis,Vice-Chair of the Council of Representatives of the International Society of Hypnosis. In 2012 he received the complementary and alternative medicine research investigator award from the Society of Behavioral Medicine.

He has received numerous honors including the Morton Prince Award from the American Board of Psychological Hypnosis. He is the President-Elect of the Society for Psychological Hypnosis (Division 30 of the American Psychological Association).
