Garland Science is proud to announce the publication of Epigenetics by Lyle Armstrong.
The concept of epigenetics has been known about since the 1940s, but it is only in the last 10 years that research has shown just how wide-ranging its effects are. It is now a very widely-used term, but there is still a lot of confusion surrounding what it actually is and does. Epigenetics is a new textbook that brings together the structure and machinery of epigenetic modification, how epigenetic modification controls cellular functions, and the evidence for the relationship between epigenetics and disease. It is a valuable source of information about all aspects of the subject for undergraduate students, graduate students, and professionals.
About the Book:
Epigenetics, (Paperback ISBN: 978-0-8153-6511-2) is written by Lyle Armstrong and published by Garland Science. It is is available in paperback and is 300 pages with 122 color illustrations. Figures in PowerPoint® and JPEG formats are available for instructors. For additional book information, and to learn about e-book options visit: http://www.garlandscience.com/epigenetics.
About the Author:
Lyle Armstrong is a Reader in Cellular Reprogramming at the Institute of Genetic Medicine in Newcastle University where his research program contributed to the derivation of some of the UK's first human embryonic stem cell lines and the development of the world's first cloned human embryos. He is now working on new methods to reprogram cells into medically useful cells, focusing on the possibility of reversing ageing during reprograming and how this might be valuable for repairing organ damage or treating human diseases using induced pluripotent stem cells. Of particular note are investigations aimed at treating cardiovascular disease and age related hearing loss. Epigenetics is the cornerstone of this reprogramming process.
