Public Release:  2nd BBEST Conference will discuss advances in bioenergy

Meeting will be a forum for the presentation of results of research developed in Sao Paulo and abroad in all areas of bioenergy

Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo

The 2nd BBEST conference will be a forum for the presentation of results of research developed in São Paulo and abroad at the frontier of knowledge, and in all areas of bioenergy: technology, innovation, engines, environment, sustainability, land use, biomass, alternative fuels, among others - with emphasis on investigations undertaken under FAPESP Bioenergy Research Program (BIOEN).

The programming includes a policy day, dedicated to the discussion of public policies needed to develop the sector, highlighting the bioenergy and issues related to food, environmental, energy security and sustainable development.

These issues emerged during the Rapid Assessment Process, meeting organized by the BIOEN Program that took place in Paris, France, in December 2013. Along with experts from 21 countries, this meeting envolved researchers of two other programs, BIOTA-FAPESP, on Characterization, Conservation , Restoration and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity in the State of São Paulo, and FAPESP Research Program on Global Climate Changes.

"The second edition of BBEST will announce the group's recommendations geared to the sustainable expansion of bioenergy policies in the world, "said Glaucia Mendes Souza, professor of the Institute of Chemistry (IQ), University of São Paulo (USP) and a member of the coordination BIOEN.

The first edition of BBEST happened at a time when we assessed the referral of investigations conducted by BIOEN, released in 2008. Now, many projects are finalized and there are important results to be shared. "When calling the industry to dialogue, the conference will offer opportunities to transform these results into innovation", said Souza.

The deadlines for submission of abstracts is open until April 25 (for oral presentation) and July 20 (for posters).

In addition to the plenary lectures and roundtables, the event will have parallel sessions to discuss industry-academy collaborative research, research funding and to the presentation of technologies related to genetics, enzymes, yeast, biomass, crops, ethanol and biodiesel engineering and biorefineries, among others.
