Professor Jamie Rogers was named a fellow of the Institute of Industrial Engineers during the June IIE Annual Conference and Expo in Montreal. The award recognizes outstanding leaders of the profession who have made significant, nationally recognized contributions to industrial engineering. It is the highest classification of IIE membership.
"It is an honor to be named a fellow of IIE," Rogers said. "I am very fortunate to have been mentored by outstanding IIE Fellow role models such as Professor Emeritus Elinor Pape and Professor Emeritus and Chair Emeritus G.T. Stevens."
Both Pape and Stevens are former UT Arlington industrial and manufacturing systems engineering professors.
Victoria Chen, professor of industrial, manufacturing and systems engineering, said Rogers has been outstanding in the classroom and in research. Rogers has been awarded more than $3.6 million in research funding.
"Dr. Rogers has done much in the area of sustainable engineering," said Chen, who recently stepped down as interim chair of the IMSE department. "She recently served on the National Science Foundation-funded Engineering Sustainable Engineers project, and she is on the development team for the new Sustainable Engineering minor."
Rogers is the 2014-2015 president of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology and has served as an ABET volunteer for many years.
Rogers was selected in 2012 as a UT System Regents' Outstanding Teacher. She also received a prestigious Piper Professor Nomination last year.
Rogers served the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board as a member of the Tuning Oversight Council for Engineering in 2010-11. She also has served on the UT System – Systems Engineering in Healthcare Steering Committee since 2011.
In addition, Rogers received the UT Arlington Chancellor's Council Award for Teaching Excellence in 1999 and was inducted into the UT Arlington Academy of Distinguished Teachers in 2011.
Rogers also was inducted into the University of Missouri Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering Hall of Fame in 2013 and is a member of several honor societies.
Prior to joining the UT Arlington faculty, Rogers worked at Texas Instruments in various engineering and management positions in defense electronics and semiconductor business areas.
