The Springer journal Colloid and Polymer Science awards Steven P. Armes from the University of Sheffield the Colloid and Polymer Science Lecture 2015. The award committee chose Armes in recognition of his research in the interdisciplinary field of colloid and polymer chemistry, which corresponds to the core topics of the journal Colloid and Polymer Science.

"After the successful start of this initiative last year, I am happy that we can again award the Colloid and Polymer Science Lecture to such an outstanding and renowned scientist in the field," said Springer Editor Tobias Wassermann. "By presenting this award, Springer and Colloid and Polymer Science, in collaboration with the German Colloid Society, aim to foster international and scientific exchange in this field."

This year, the Colloid and Polymer Science Lecture will be presented at the IACIS conference in Mainz at the 15th Conference of the International Association of Colloid and Interface Scientists. IACIS 2015 is the biggest conference in its field this year, and is organized in conjunction with the 47th Conference of the German Colloid Society from 24 to 29 May. Steven Armes will deliver his Colloid and Polymer Science Lecture entitled "Polymerisation-induced Self-assembly" on Thursday, 28 May, as the keynote presentation in the session "Responsive Systems." He will also summarize the topic in an invited article in Colloid and Polymer Science.

Armes received his PhD in 1987 from the University of Bristol. After postdoctoral studies at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, he returned to the UK in 1989 as a lecturer at the University of Sussex. He held positions as Senior Lecturer, Reader, and then as Professor at Sussex University, before moving to Sheffield in 2004. He is currently Professor in Polymer and Colloid Chemistry, and the Director of the Sheffield Polymer Centre and Farapack Polymers, a university spin-out company. In 2014, the Royal Society elected him as a Fellow, in addition to numerous prestigious awards he received from the Royal Society of Chemistry.
