Jorge Ribas is a video producer, reporter and editor with Discovery News, the online news division of Discovery Channel.
In this position, Jorge has met and interviewed members of the Minutemen group on the U.S.-Mexico border, traveled north to Alaska to cover the Iditarod dog sled race, and canoed through the bayous of Arkansas in search of the elusive Ivory-billed Woodpecker.
He covers a wide range of scientific research and issues, from space and technology to archaeology and the environment. Jorge is also co-host of the weekly Discovery podcast "The Friday News Feedbag," where top science stories of the week are discussed in an informative and entertaining manner.
Prior to Discovery, Jorge worked as an online producer for the Arizona Daily Star in Tucson, Ariz., working with reporters to develop award-winning multimedia content for the newspaper's website. He was also the managing editor of the paper's online entertainment website, www.aznightbuzz.com, which was nominated for an Eppy award in 2005.
He has also worked as a print reporter for various media outlets in the Boston, Chicago and Washington, DC media markets, covering beats that included entertainment, education, health, and state and federal government.
Jorge holds a master's degree in journalism from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism and an undergraduate degree in English from Boston College. He lives in Maryland, near where he was born and raised, but is proud to say he has visited or lived in 45 of the 50 states.
