Optic fiber broadband expansion could be reducing companies' performance and turnover, according to a new study from Lund University in Sweden. The explanation proposed by the researchers is that the internet and smartphones are a distraction that reduces employee productivity, and blurs lines between personal and work-related internet use. The conclusion should be interpreted with caution, however: whereas the negative impact is strongly supported with statistics, the proposed explanation is a hypothesis that is only weakly supported.
