A microphysiological system of the Controllable Strain Membrane (BCSM) for cell stretching (IMAGE)
Caption
The biomimetic lung unit model, comprising a biomimetic membrane, vascular cells, and pulmonary cells, can mimic respiration and cultivate cells at the air-liquid interface. The biomimetic membrane, inspired by paper cutting art and made of a polycaprolactone (PCL) topological mesh and hydrogel coating, simulates elastic fibers and the basement membrane. The biomimetic membrane’s wave elongates when stretched, with the ring remaining unchanged, allowing control of local hydrogel deformation near PCL fibers by altering wave curvature.
