各グラファイト粒子を電気絶縁性シリカの層で化学的にコーティングした。ポリエチレングリコール（PEG）は、シリカがグラファイト表面に結合するのを助ける。コーティングされたグラファイト粒子はワックスと混合し、絶縁性の反磁性スラブに成形する。
